Not many games left...
After watching Wigan snatch a dramatic last minute equaliser at Stamford Bridge on Monday it really is make or break time now for Chelsea if they want to win the Premier League.
After the Wigan game, manager Avram Grant insisted his side can still win the title and although their chances now look slim it is still possible. To do so they must take maximum points from their four remaining games whilst also hoping Manchester United slip-up. Anything less, and the title will be heading to Old Trafford and Avram Grant may be heading for pastures new.
Sven Goran Eriksson's future as Manchester City manager is likely to be reviewed at the end of the season with the club's owner, Thaksin Shinawatra, promising to make wholesale changes as a result of the team's alarming loss of form.
Despite keeping City on course for their highest Premier League points total in his first season as manager, Eriksson has still to convince Shinawatra that he is the man to realise his grand ambitions for the club by taking City into the Champions League.
Having surpassed the expectations of many by steering City into the race for fourth place in the firsthalf of this season, Eriksson has seen his team drop out of contention for Europe on the back of just four victories from their last 17 fixtures.
The slide has prompted Shinawatra, who paid £80m to take control of the club last summer, to reveal his displeasure with a damning assessment of Eriksson's players in recent months.
Manchester United are now well placed to retain the Barclays Premier League title they won last season following their victory over Arsenal on Sunday and Chelsea's draw at home to Wigan the following day. And with a two-legged semi-final against Barcelona to come in the Champions League, the prospect of a glorious Double is moving sharply into focus for Sir Alex Ferguson's side. That dream is now just seven games from becoming reality, though fulfilling it will be a test of temperament and tenacity as well as talent.
In the Premier League, Monday night's dropped points by Chelsea mean the Blues, United's closest challengers, are now trailing the Red Devils by five points with four games remaining, and it would need a United collapse of major proportions for Chelsea to overhaul them. Indeed, Sir Alex Ferguson's side could be crowned champions at Stamford Bridge on April 26th when the two rivals meet.
